Songinfo

"Lonely Teardrops" is a song recorded and released as a single in 1958 by Jackie Wilson. Wilson's first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, eventually peaking at number seven. It was originally intended by Gordy ( the writer ) to be recorded as a ballad. After recording it, Wilson and Brunswick executives felt the song lacked something. It was then given to veteran Decca Records arranger Dick Jacobs who re-arranged it into the smash hit it became. The hit's success helped land Wilson on American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show performing to receptive audiences on the respective shows, as well as other shows such as Shindig and Hullabaloo. This was the last song Jackie Wilson performed before his coma and later death, when he collapsed on-stage singing it .

Bruce records a series of promotional interviews from his home in support of Only The Strong Survive, The precise recording dates of these interviews are uncertain. One of them was with The Italian virginradio . Massimo Cotto asked Bruce during the Italian virginradio interview about Jackie Wilson's greatness:

"As far as the performer goes, no one has ever beat Jackie Wilson. Jackie was a voice from heaven, understated, one of the smootest movers you've ever seen. I mean, if you get up a film on stage somewhere and watch how he moves... incredible, athletic, unbelievably athletic. I mean, Jackie Wilson was simply one of the ...and he is underrated to this day. He doesn't get attribution to the amazing talents and voice that he had. So he is really .... he was an incredible artist ."

"Alright, wanna have a little fun? we're gonna do a song we've never done, it's one of my favorite songs, gonna sing it for you, send you home with it.... favorite song of mine by Jackie Wilson...I'll start it, Lonely teardrops....We're gonna have to do the bridge one more time, that asshole screwed up my finale here ..."

Lyrics

Shooby Doo Wop ba baa (hey hey)
Shooby Doo Wop ba baa (hey hey)
Shooby Doo Wop ba baa (hey hey)

My heart Is cryin', cryin'
Lonely teardrops
My pillows never dry of
Lonely teardrops

Come home, come home
Just say you will, say you will (say you will)
Say you will (say you will)
Hey, Hey (say you will)

My heart Is cryin', cryin'
Lonely teardrops
My pillows never dry of
Lonely teardrops

Come home, come home
Just say you will, say you will (say you will)
Say you will (say you will)
Hey, Hey (say you will)

Just give me another chance
For our romance
Come on and tell me
That one day you'll return
'Cause everyday that you've been gone away
You'll know my heart does nothing but burn

Crying
Lonely Teardrops
My pillows never dry of
Lonely Teardrops

Come home, come home
Just say you will, say you will (say you will)
Say you will (say you will)
Hey, Hey (say you will)

Say it right now baby (say you will)
Come on, come on (say you will)
Say it darling, yeah (say you will)
